Spades, grips & shovels
A spade can be seen as the most personal piece of gardening equipment. With the forged blade of the spade, you can cut through roots, dig a hole, and turn over your vegetable garden. DeWit® also offers a spade with an extra serrated edge to make cutting through roots even easier. The handle of a spade is just as important as the forged blade. Always use the handle in an upright position and do not bend or lever it excessively, as this may cause the handle to break.
With a garden fork, you work the soil more gently, for example when loosening and refreshing the soil, lifting old roots to the surface, and preparing borders for a new gardening season. Where a spade can disturb the soil structure through cutting and digging, a garden fork preserves more of the existing soil life and avoids unnecessary disruption. When using a garden fork, keep the handle as upright as possible and avoid excessive levering, as this may result in a broken handle.
